Did you ask the dealer why they can't just replace the studs? Since they already have the car. Sounds like they are doing more than replacing the studs. Sounds like they want to put in a new shaft.

From the title of your thread I thought you had a bad episode with your wife or girlfriend--never mind

my son and i were painting the rusted brake rotors silver and we were at the last wheel and his torque wrench broke - we twisted two studs off before we woke up it was the torque wrench had failed.

the studs look very flimsy anyway - they are not very big in diameter. i can not believe that we would have damaged the hub at all. the dealer didn't remove the broke studs so how would they know if another stud couldn't be replaced anyway? i think their just lazy and a new hub is a easy fix for them.

i am going to buy a couple of studs today and head over to my sons garage and we wil find out - i will take pictures.

Since the Jaguar lug nuts are a little strange and not generally available, the studs may be also. Based on their major component repair philosophy the Jaguar parts counter may only sell the assembled hub.

Let us know please. Sooner or later I will break one too.

It would appear that the hub is an assembly with an internet price of $200.00 plus for an OES hub.

I could easily see the jag price for the part plus labor reaching $600.00. I have a call into the parts counter at Jag in Kentucky to inquire about studs. I'll let you know what they say.

Just looking at the picture of the hub I would guess that the hub has to come off to put in the stud anyway.

I hope that wrench is now a piece of yard art!

The studs sell for $3.91 each. I've got plenty in stock.

Update form Jag in Kentucky. It is a hub assembly however the have had success in replacing studs on occasion. If Ken has the studs what can you lose for under $ 10.00. Heck with all that money saved you can buy a new torque wrench.

Update - we have the two broken lugs fixed! My son and I just jerked the wheel off and I took a hammer and whacked the two broke studs back and replaced with some pep boys studs that cost a whopping 2.50 us each. the hard part was getting the brakes back on but once we did everything is good.

i can not believe the dealer would try and rip me like this on a new car. if we had proper tools we could have done this in one hour easy as is it took us 3 hours but most of that was running back and forth to pep boys supply.

the whole reason we broke the studs in the first place was to paint the rusty rotors which my car had so i could attend a car show this weekend and not be embarrassed that jag sold me a car with rusty rotors. the dealer should have fixed this for me like i asked them to when i bought the car.

Same lug size as before mark? Meaning, all original nuts fit?

Welcome to the world of car dealerships! You would think they would do anything to get and keep paying customers. My theory is treat me right and I will return!

Default Studs

The studs can definitely be replaced. It is not that difficult.

yep got all my nuts back in perfect shape. lol

my some went to get the studs and he said the store just had a big bucket of them so he grabbed two that matched and that was that. they were very exact - my son is a big car freak he has a corvette c6 z06 and used to restore mustangs etc. so he really knows his stuff. i am really glad otherwise i would have probably been out 1000. bucks at the dealer.

ps my wife says thats what i get for having a lambo. but what they dont know is i have a lambo cause im frugal as hell. reason i moved on buying the xkr was it was 30k off sticker, so had to get it. i love the car too!

Glad you got your nuts back in shape and didn't have to get the whole shaft from your dealer!!

I know there are some honest and reliable dealers out there somewhere, but when your local Jaguar dealer sells their parts over the counter at 3 times the suggested retail price, it has to make you wonder about their whole operation!!
