Help First Jaguar ever! 2001 Silverstone
Kind of found this car by mistake.. I love it so far... It is a 2001 XKR Silver Stone with 9,000 miles on it...
Problem so far.. No Manual, but all other paper was included done to the invoice..
Question one...
two buttons on the console.. one is sport, and other I don't know.. What do they do? I have owned lots of amgs, and porsches, and vettes, but never a Jaquar...
Question two..
The steering wheels shakes at 65... Pretty bad, I had all 4 tires balanced.. The problem still is still there! The org. tires are on the car, maybe one has a flat spot? With only 9k miles in tens years... The car sat around..
Thanks, chasedrive

I'd first try to get those tires re-balanced, maybe even use a hunter road-force balance machine (call around till you find a shop that has one, not everyone does) and see if that fixes it. That would be my first impression after sitting so long...rubber might be flatspotted/out of round as you mentioned . If they can't balance it...get some new sneakers for the car. Those silverstones are nice. Get us some pictures in the new member section ok?

the two buttons are sport and cruise control on/off.
the road force balance is the only balance for these cars in my opinion.
but have the tech. guy insure the wheelsare not dented, this will make your steering wheel shimmy at 65 to 70
with old tires or new. i know from experience. and it takes just one wheel with a slight inside ding to do it.
as is the case with mine.
best of luck with it and many trouble free motoring miles.

Thanks for your help! Just printed out the manual... I am hoping it is a flat spot in the tire.. There is a Hunter Machine near my work.. It is going to the dealer tonight for a checkup and fluids replaced.. Tire Rack has the front tires on sale for 129.00
I Will get some pics this weekend... I am looking forward to understand more about Jaquar! The car being a silverstone, I think there is a need for any mods... I will keep this bone stock, and just enjoy the ride!
Thanks...

Welcome to the classic love/hate relationship. Hopefully yours will be more love.
Anyway the "S" button when lit is for a sport ride, firmer. Shame you didnt get the manuals but the link listed above is good or you can get the complete shop manuals on e-bay in pdf form.
Enjoy.

If the tires are the origional ones, REPLACE THEM. Tires that old are dangerous. Be sure to get the correct size tires. Front & rear are different sizes.
The buttons:
The one with the dial is to turn on and off the cruse control. The one with the 'S' is for 'Sport Mode', In normal driving the transmission starts off in 2nd gear and the suspension is softer. In sport mode the transmission starts off in 1st gear and holds on to them a little longer. It will also downshift quicker. The CATS suspension also reacts faster.
BTW, you have a Mercedes transmission in that car.

Try these guys too...better prices than tirerack, better selection, and very easy to reach on the phone.Tirerack has alot of reviews though, and I do like that alot.
Check out the Falken Fk-452s, i have a new set all around and really like the look, tread and performance so far! (About $200 cheaper than the OEM Pirellis too.
