Default HELP - have my brake switch out of Jag

Hi all. Need a quick description of the orientation of this fabled switch to reinstall. It rather fell out before I got a look at it under the dash.
Does the actual moving nylon piece which is the switch trip go back in with it facing up or down?
Does the extended bracket with the mounting studs go toward the engine compartment or toward the drivers seat? This will solve my problem.
I would really appreciate your help with this. It's 85 degrees today and I just can't stay on my back forever trying to figure it out.
Thanks.
Charlie

Mount bolts go up into the brake booster cavity, the orientation is such that the switch is pressed when you let OFF the brakes and unpressed when you press the brake pedal. I used some wooden skewers from the top to help guide me through the process, some have used string etc. It's nearly impossible to try and wing it and hope you find the mounting holes. FYI, you almost certainly need a second person to thread the nut on one of the studs, as you cannot hold it in place and thread it yourself unless you have 8 ft arms. Also may want to use a skewer and a little bubble gum to hold/thread the bolts as it is tight in there.

Okay. But is the empty end of the bracket aimed at the engine or the cabin?

The wire end of the switch will therefore be facing the cabin. Metal bracket left side, plastic switch right side. This was only slightly confusing, for 4 hours. Working blind is such a joy!

What would be easier is to know exactly where it should go. Open your bonnet/hood. Look on the firewall/panel above the drivers knees would be and you will see two tiny holes. As suggested before putting tooth picks or similar in there would help you find them. It is better if you find someone to help you too.

I ended up on my back. Head on the pedals. With someone shining a torch through the holes. Can either take 2 mins or two hours and a bad back.

Good luck.
