Help Picking An IDS For My X100
I recently got a JLR Mangoose and SDD v162 from OBDII365.com. Installed on a win7 pro laptop.
Installation went smoothly, and I was able to program the keys on my 2001 xk8 no problem. For $50 or so, its worth a try.
If you want to go pure IDS, you could build an IDS130 system on an windows XP pro box using software from British Diagnostics in the UK. Its the last version that works offline. I tried it, and it also worked with the Mangoose.

Any jaguar 2009-older you should use the red ROTUNDA-VCM or the blue TERADYNE-GNA600.
Both are exactly the same VCI, the only difference is the firmware, however once you connect it to your laptop it will automatically ask to install correct firmware if needed... THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT TOOL YOU NEED TO DIAGNOSE AND PROGRAM ANYTHING ON ANY JAGUAR 2009-OLDER, REASON IS OBD2 PINOUT AND THE COMMUNICATION PROTOCOLS, ALL NEW BOSCH VCI WILL DO SOME DIAGNOSTIC AND PROGRAMMING IF THE MODULES ARE ON THE CANBUS NETWORK, BUT OLDER JAGS NEED J1850 PROTOCOL WHICH ONLY OLDER VCM HAS...
THE SOFTWARE DOES NOT MATTER, ANYTHING v118 AND NEWER WILL WORK, AND NEW SDD WILL WORK TOO IT WILL AUTOMATICALLY SWITCH TO LEGACY IDS ONCE IT READS THE VIN#..
ALSO ALWAYS DO NATIVE SOFTWARE INSTALLS, ALL THIS VMWARE B.S. IS CRAP....
IF ANY ONE NEEDS THE RED-ROTUNDA-VCM1 or THE BLUE-TERADYNE-GNA600, LET ME KNOW, IM WILLING TO SELL, BOTH ARE ORIGINAL AND GOOD WORKING CONDITION

I thing that its pretty well a given thing that connection like the Mongoose cable is more or less a compromise as opposed to the Rotunda and the Teradyne connection.
Its probably not a good idea to perform changes to major modules using the Mongoose cable. If it weren't for the rarity of the other two and the high prices of them when I find one, I would have bought one of them a long time ago. Whatever you use, the battery on the vehicle should be in top condition or you need to have a supply to keep thing going securely.
The use of the mongoose cable is still really good for pinpointing faults on a vehicle. Far better than some of the expensive readers on the market although they are getting quite expensive these days and some of the suppliers have left the JLR cable out of their sales lists.
All this plus the erratic workings of old PC equipment running at a slow pace and possibly inside a VM is making it difficult to read faults on these cars.

Mongoose is known online just because they also have software/crack fixes... but in real world working on these vehicles on a daily basis you can not trust mangoose...
with any JAG or LANDROVER there is alot of good brand devices that you can use, you just have to make sure the device you are using will work with the protocol/language that the vehicle needs...
SDD and Legacy IDS for JAGS 1996-UP works with alot of different devices, it was designed that way because jaguar/landrover did not have a specific VCI made for them, so they used J2534 STANDARDS.
DEVICES THAT ARE GOOD AND TESTED AND WE USE EVERYDAY ON JAGUARS :-
BEST devices for JAGS 2009-older is the ROTUNDA-VCM1 OR TERADYNE-GNA600.
JAGS 2010-NEWER is the JLR00001 and good brand J2534, 2014-NEWER need the BOSCH-PATHFINDER vci because they are multi-can vehicles, but you also can use a good J2534 device too.
