Can anyone help me please?
My 1999 Jaguar XKR keeps unlocking itself, is this a known problem?
Gerard.

Does the door lock cycle open and shut automatically a few times before it remains unlocked?

I'm not sure, I keep locking it outside my house and when I return the car is unlocked.

Often times a dying battery causes these cars to do strange and illogical things. In September 2012, my wife's XK8 popped the trunk lock open several times all by itself. Turned out the car's battery was failing. A new battery solved the issue. These cars consume massive amounts of power and must have a strong battery at all times or strange things happen and spurious trouble codes get thrown....

Gerard,

I've added some detail to your thread title. Most of the threads on the forum are a call for HELP so it needs something to attract attention!

More importantly, when a resolution is found, it then helps others searching for the same issue in future.

Graham

I had a similar problem with other issues. On mine the doors would unlock spontaneously while driving and the alarm would go off for no reason when parked. Originally I thought (as did dealer) it was a faulty door lock but actually turned out to be a faulty security module (mucho dinari) - needed keys reprogramming and all. Took them a week to track it down. Since then (2 years) no issues.

I'm going to wager its the door latch micro-switch on the driver side that is giving you the seemingly haunted treatment. There are many threads on DIY repair for that one around here, just need to do some digging. good luck!

Have you ruled out the possibility of the Unlock Button on the Remote becoming hiper-sensitive on its way to failing? The remote will work from a good distance. Check if removing the battery from the remote will require reprogramming, which is easy to do but be sure you have the instructions. Switch to the other remote and remove the battery from the one you normally use and see if it stops occurring. And be sure your teenage kid isn't playing tricks on you!
