Started my '99 XK8 with 141,000 miles this morning and the revs shot past 3k and I shut her down. Tried restarting and same issue. Pulled the air intake and did a quick clean of the throttle body. Reassembled and no change.
Any ideas? Oh, and I lent my code reader to a buddy this weekend!!!

Have you got a vacuum leak ? I'd check all the lines around the engine, into the brake booster, the charcoal canister in the inner wheelarch, and so on

 

Check the seating of the black electrical connector on the throttle body. Check 'em all for that matter.

 

I hate to be so stupid but how do you release the cable without breaking it? I have pushed and squeezed but no luck. thanks in advance for your help!
