Hood Open Message

It refers to the convertible top. Bonnet OPEN would be engine cover. Try fully opening the top and the spray the latch in the top of the windscreen with spray lubricant. You may have a micro switch not registering closed. Close the roof up and see if that solves the problem.
Let us know if it doesn't and we can go further.

My US car says HOOD OPEN when the bonnet is open and TRUNK OPEN when the boot lid is open. Maybe they changed it one of the years, but that would mean the same message HOOD OPEN would have two completely different meanings in consecutive years. I wouldn't have thought that they would do that. Although, come to think of it, they did use plastic timing chain tensioners.

i get this too occasionally when it is cold out and i open the roof, must be that the hydraulic fluid is thicker. it starts to open and snaps back to an unlocked closed position. if it begins to unlatch and does not complete there is a fail-safe prompting you to cycle it which is a good idea to ensure that people are not driving with an unlocked roof.

whoops, the "hood Open" message is back. I sprayed the micro switch on the latch with CRC electrical contact cleaner and lubricated the mechanisms with light oil. "Hood Open" is still lit. when I trip the micro switch mounted to the hydraulic cylinder inside the headliner the message reads "convertible not latched" so I think I'm barking up the wrong tree. It's probably referring to the "Bonnet" not being latched.
Does anyone know where the micro switch is located under the hood that is causing this??

OK, so I changed the language and now it sais "Bonnet Open". I found the micro switch on the bottom of the passenger side latch and saw raw Copper! Turns out a mouse ate through the plastic casing and bit through the small wires, absolutely shredding them. Looks like an easy but very time consuming soldering job. I disconnected the battery and unlatched three relay sockets and have good access to the wires.
