My hood open warning lite came on and recycling the hood does not make it go off. It has done this once before but cured itself. This time it looks like the problem will not go away. Has anyone else had this problem and does anyone have a cure?

Jaguar uses British terminology. The "hood" is the convertible top. The big metal piece that opens to reveal the engine is called a bonnet.

 

Thanks Sam. That could be it. I'll cycle the top and see if that solves it.

Hi Sam. Recyling the "HOOD" (convertible top) caused the lite to go out. Now, was that because the red lite really means that rag thing or the metal thing up front. I'll pay close attention next time it comes on. But for now it is out.

 

I used to get that warning at times while driving or just after starting the car. Soon the alarm would go off and sometimes I would have to use the key to relock the car. Changing the hood open switch fixed it. My XJ8 isn't a convertible.
