1997 XK8 Convertible. I want a physical key to put in a hidden metal magnetic box.

You are in luck! The US '97, as far as I know, does not have a transponder setup. All you need is a new 8-cut TIBBE key. There are vendors on eBay and other places that sell these. You will need to provide them with either the TIBBE code (you can decode it with the naked eye), or a high quality picture of the key stem.

Check eBay carlocksandkeys

I did look there for vendors, but it looked like they sold uncut keys. The prices linked fine though. How do I read the code they need?

Thanks very much. I'll look Sat night when I get home. My '97 just past 60k. Now if the radio would work reliably I'd e very happy.

The vendor I inked to sells keys cut to a code. This vendor also accepts pictures of the key and can decode it for you. Or you can check the ad and go with the vendor's instructions for the decoding.
