While working under my car yesterday i noticed my front wishbones (upper and lower) have quite a bit of corrosion on them. It looks like mainly surface rust but it made me wonder how normal this was?

I only bought my car in august so don't know how it has been stored long term.

Think i can get away with attacking them with a wire brush, some corrosion inhibitor and then prime them but how bad would it have to get before replacing them?

 

Mine was a California car so they are in good shape. It all depends on their exposure. I though they were aluminum, no rust, but I could be wrong.

I have started the front suspension rebuild on my '03. It was supposed to be a winter project but we know how that goes, and I do have a decent garage with a lift. After removal and cleaning I realize that the wishbones upper and lower are steel. The paint was in good shape after scrubbing the California desert dust off.
