Andy,
I tapped off +12 V in the panel up above the mirror and mounted the camera on the windshield behind the mirror. Works great and the camera is virtually invisible.
If need be, I'll see if I can find the wire codes. I took the 12 V and made a mini USB adapter for the Camera.
I powered a 12V dual USB plug off the factory aux power port behind the glove box and ran one power wire up to the dashcam from there.
I ran the second USB power cord back, between the two seats for the driver or passenger to use
It is very easy and straight forward to do and, conveniently, the aux power port is automatically switched on/off with the ignition

tell me more of this aux power port?
mine has the factory sat nav so thinking of adding a modern day nav which will need its own power feed too.
I used the same aux power behind the glovebox. If you take the glovebox out, it's tucked up against the inner wing. It has pemanent 12v, ignition switched 12v and an earth.
It's a three blade plug. It's tucked well out of view - once you take the glovebox out, you kind of need to stick your head into the glovebox space and look back towards where the passenger's outer knee would be.

Hi Nalle,
I'm thinking this is a good place to tap into for my radar detector. Nice how it sits behind the rear view mirror.
Do you happen to remember the colors of the wires you used? It would save me a trip through the diagrams
in the electrical guide.
Thanks, Tom
Switched 12V is already available behind the cover of the mirror mount. Since the powerdraw is nominal for a camera, it works fine. The only problem is that it is pretty tight to solder back up there and there is no way to get heat shrink tubing in. Leaves electric tape, that I hate. However, once back together, it is a well protected location it should be fine for a long, long time.
I made a 12V to USB charger from a mini cigarette light plug. Unfortunately even there I had to use electric tape as I did not have any heat shrink tubing large enough. Once installed everything is well hidden behind the mirror.
Switched 12V+ is on the red/white wire and Ground is on the Black.
I used a piggyback fuse connector plugged into the sat nav fuse socket.
hooked up 1 x mini usb hardwire adapter for not dashcam and ran the cable up the A post and across to the mirror. The cable tucked in under the headlining rather neatly,
i also attached a double usb adaptor to the same piggyback fuse and after undoing the top 4 screws in the glovebox, I fished the cable through to the upper glovebox slot.
i have removed the sat nav screen and panel completely and I am waiting for a Garmin Smart Drive 51 to put in its place.
I fished the usb cable for the Garmin through to the sat nav location,
hopefully, she the nav unit arrives I can simply plug it in and off we go.
everything powers up with the ignition and powers down when the ignition is switched off,
looking okay so far.
i used the M6 screw thread nest to the fuse box for my ground which works beautifully,
