Default how do you remove 1997 xk8 dimmer control module?

For my 1997 xk8:
I found the dimmer control module next to the fuse box where the dash abuts the passenger door. I've tried prying it off without any success. I'm not sure how to get behind it because the glove box is there. How do you get the locking pins on the module to release? Or do you just rip it out? Thanks for any help.

just break the tabs. who cares. if it's bad the new one will have good tabs on it. if you need to reinstall just zip tie or something.

Default how to replace dimmer control module

I decided to explore it myself. When I removed the glove box (an unecessary step as it turns out) I found that only 2 of the 3 tabs are used to attach the module to the car. Each tab fits into a slot that gets narrow at the bottom so the slot pinches each tab into position (so the module is held in place that way and you can't just pull it straight out).

I discovered that I did not have to remove the glove box after all. Just pull up on the module (takes some pressure), then pull it out. To install the new one push in and then push down while pushing in. Done.

I thought I'd post this in case anyone else ever experiences a similar problem.

why did you have to replace it? What was your car doing or not doing?

aside from the fact that the interior lights would not dim, which I didn't even notice, the backlighting of the entire center panel did not go on when I turned on my headlights. That means that at night I could not see the radio/cd buttons (1-6) or the buttons for the heat/ac or the front and rear fog lights. Since I replaced the dimmer control module everything is working EXCEPT the backlighting that tells me which cd and track is playing. I am still looking for the source for that light.

check ALL the fuses. You might already know this but you can check them without pulling them out by putting a test light to each side of the fuse where the tiny metal prob sticks out the top of the fuse. Or you check the resistance across the two prongs indicating if the fuse has popped or not. Did you check your turn signal switch? That is where I traced my problems to. All it was, was a broken wire in the switch. Exact same problems you have. This also caused a fuse to pop.
