The guy i bought it off says i just need to buy a sim card ... does it make calls thru the in-car hi-fi or what?
Or do you have to physically use the one on the centre console?

Yes, just buy a pay as you go sim card and put it in the phone. You can use the handset, but most people just use the hands free option which comes through the radio speakers. There is a microphone mounted next to the driver's sunvisor. You dial by using the radio buttons. To the left of the radio you will see a little telephone symbol, which you press to switch to telephone, then dial your number. The phone automatically overrides the radio if you receive an incoming call. There is a manual for the phone, which is thicker than the main car handbook, but I have never read it (it's a man thing)!
