Default How many clicks on handbrake ratchet?

Recently changed the rear brake discs but have to go back in to replace the handbrake shoes as the liners fell off one . So how many clicks is normal on the handbrake? Currently, struggle to get it to one .
As handbrake not been used since the MOT test 8 months ago I cannot remember how far up it comes .

The annual state inspection rule here is that the handbrake must be capable of holding the car in place by no less than the second click. Most of these systems should be able to click at least four or five times....

Thats useful as long as the UK handbrake brake system is the same as US .
Here in the UK it goes on a rolling brake tester ,the guy pulls on the handle and must get a 25% reading ..I think it 50% for the footbrake.
So I think as you say 3 or 4 clicks would be OK ..will adjust.

Let us know how your handbrake works with the new shoes. I would be interested, because mine gives just a suggestion of holding no matter how hard or how many clicks you pull it up. So, I may be diving into this before the next inspection comes around. TIA.

Sounds like your cable is out of adjustment ...probably stretched...the brake pads dont wear ( no rubbing) or the drum adjuster move so I think its get under and let someone pull on the handle and see what movement you have in the cable.
On mine the linings became detached from the shoe due to rust under the lining but only on one side.
I would check the cable first.
