I thought I would start a thread that is positive. A "how many days/weeks/months since last repair" Repair meaning something you have had to do to the car to keep it on the road. Not something that was a mod or extra toy addition thing. List your car and miles when you post.

For me it's a 97 XK8 with 73k miles at 2.5 months since last repair!

 

2001 XKR 78K 6 months ago

 

2000 XK8 52,000 miles. New to me at 47,000 in September '08. The only problem was a slipped throttle body connector. The forum helped me ID and solve the problem in 1/2 hour total. So I'd say 6 months 4,000 miles since an event.

 

2003 XK8.
Repaired some minor problems it had when I bought it in Dec 08 with 53k. Since then no probs. Now 60k.

 

Bought it November 2008 with 27K miles. Dealer replaced thermostat and housing and new front brake pads and rotors.

10 months and 18,000 miles and no problems/trouble.

 

'02 purchased August '08 with 40.6k miles. Slow coolant leak August '09, 6 weeks ago. Otherwise a great car.

 

09-17-2009, Phoenix Red 1999 XK8 Coupe. 72,310miles prior to the last 60 days, two years without issue other than maintenance items. Oil changes, brakes, 70,000 mile service. Last 60 days 1 coil pack faliure, elected to change all coil packs including adding new spark plugs, 1 valve cover due to oil in plug well, coolant flush, new hoses, t-stat.

All of this you can really call maintenance until the car decides to tell you when to maintain vs you maintaining the car.

 

I like this thread so I'll list the details of my last car as well.
1997 XK8 coupe.
Bought fall of 05, sold fall of 08. Had 70k when I got it, sold with 96k.
Repairs over 3 yrs were tensioner failure, front wheel bearing and seat module acting up.
Not bad for a luxury car so I bought an 03 XK8 in 08.

03 XK8, 93k miles, unfortunately, car's been in the shop within the last couple months for lower control arm bushings

I'll summarize - since my 2.5 years of ownership (and 40k miles i've put on it), I've replaced the convertible hydraulic lines, both rams on the top, water pump, thermostat, brakes, rotors, had a transmission service, upper shock mounts, lower shock bushings, upper (and those lower) control arm bushings, closed canister valve and vent tube, driver side shock mount, upper steering column (reach motor went out). A majority of these were taken care of under Jag Select Edition warranty...thank goodness. About every 6 months i've got some maintenance to perform. But, it doesn't bother me, cuz when the car is running and driving nice...its all worth it!

 

Whenever I think of all I have done on my car and I bring it up to the wife I must remember that this xk8 was for her and not me!!!!

That being said I could sit down and whine about it, pull my hair out and that would hurt because I got a lot of it or I could look at what I did because it was what I wanted to do. I have certainly done a lot to our xk8 and in reality it will continue to keep me occupied for a long time to come. What else would I do with my spare time!

In owning one of these cars you must first understand that this is a touring car not a hot rod. Now everyone knows that these cars will skoot down the road without hesitation and on my part without reservation and hug the road and make you feel good the entire time you are driving it. In driving this car to enjoyment you must first connect to it. You might need to make adjustments and or repairs every now and then and in my case I do it because I have this connection to the car that draws me to work on it. I enjoy the fact that I can work on it and feel good about my accomplishments and gloat over it. And that is what it is all about!!

 

Yes, I love my Jaguars! Someone stated earlier that he only liked his Jaguar because you are not supposed to love inanimate objects. I love my Jaguars and am proud to be in love with them. If I could have sex with them, I might consider that too, the pervert that I am! LOL

Hey I had numerous MG's before the Jag, So you where married to mechanical and electrical failures (Everybody has heard of Lucas the prince of Darkness). Owning this car is a the same as a fine woman.You just love her, you may get burned once in a while, but can you live with out her?

 

2002 XKR-100 bought in Dec. 2008. I have had no repairs since then and have put about 7000 miles on the car bringing it to 57000.

 

You know Lucas makes refrigerators also.

2001 XK8 purchased May 2009 w. 65,500 and now has 67,700.

Hydraulic hose failure on day 3. Just had her in for a check up and road force balance (to discover I have 2 bent rims, motor mounts are leaking gel and tensioners are of the old variety). BUT she runs GREAT and the repairs will get taken care of very shortly. I just think these are things to be expected of an 8 year old car, and for the price I paid, I assumed it wasn't going to be perfect. My husband keeps telling me to quit spending money on it (I just bought the leather rejuvenation kit), but I LOVE this car (some days more than my husband!). How can you not want to make it all that it can be? We occassionally talk of trading up to a newer model, but I'm not sure now that I will want to do that anymore. There's just something about your first Jag (your first anything, for that matter) that creates an emotional (and in this case, financial) bond.

This car is like the the first car I ever bought, a 1973 Thunderbird (forest green with white leather interior). I literally cried when I traded it in for a newer car. Cried through test drives beforehand too.

I keep saying, in the event she doesn't run anymore and can't be fixed, she'll be rolled into the living room as a useable objet d'art from which we'll be watching TV. Our own indoor drive-in theater.

I probably sound like a nut job but I DO love my car,and all I can say is I have ABSOLUTELY NO REGRETS!! If I had known then what I know now, I'd still buy the same car all over again!!!

 

2000 XK8 - Purchased April 2009 with 43000, now almost 46000 miles.
Last repair: late May 2009 - leaking rear pinion seal. Replaced seal and flange since Jag doesn't sell them seperately...only to find out a month later that Coventry West offers just the seal. I consider this pretty normal maintenance so the Jag has been basically trouble free.

'97 XK8 coupe, purchased in June '06 with 43,000km (kilometers), 62,000km now. No issues until recently. Replaced 2ndry tensioners (preventative) last winter and regular maintenance for the past 3 years, so I'm very happy.

First repair required was in the last month, likely caused by during tensioner replacement, was the EGR (or PCV) tube from the LHS cam cover. The tube had cracked throwing up a CEL. Managed to fix (reinforce) without too much dificulty.
My friend is the car repair expert & thus i might not be using the right name. I'm still learning about cars, but am enjoying it so far.

I have one additional repair needed (broken headlight lens) but that isn't really anyones fault except the rock, or truck that threw it :-S

It is real simple to service:

1) Remove generator, place it on the shelf for next owner. Replace with single wire Japanese alternator with internal regulator.
2) Remove distributor rotor, points and condenser, place it on the shelf for next owner. Replace with electronic ignition system.
3) Flip that puppy from positive ground to negative ground if you want to install an aftermarket radio.
4) Chant naked circling fire built from service manual.

The rest is actually built well and after step 1 you have a decent charge on battery so the rest of stuff works well. If you do step 4 and are a male, please do not post photos.

2003 XK8, 35,000 miles, about 1 month since last repair but all repairs covered under warrranty. Repairs were after extensive scrutiny.
