I am not sure how to reply as to last repair as it would seem to go to a reliability question. I went in for a 40K maintenance visit on my 2003 XK8 Coupe. little surprise as I thought it was still included (not after four years $516 or so for oil change, air filter, throttle body cleaning, etc.). That would not count as a repair but they did get to the bottom of my headlights going off when set to automatic mode (problem in sensor located in mirror assembly) as well as a leaking axle seal resulting in damaged bearings and a follow ransmission up issue i think is related to the dreaded whoop chirp transmission additive fix-all. Grand total was about $2,800 but came down to the charge for the 40K maintenence plus a $100 deductible on the after market warranty. It looks like the warranty was a good idea. I will call it 5,000 miles without a new problem but zero with everything completeley fixed. The Xmission shifts a little funny at low speed after the whoop chirp magic fluid was added. Clearing transmission mods seemed to help (don't know impact).

The amount spent above and beyond the purchase, regular maintenance and after market warranty is minimal. $100/8,000 miles, not too bad.

Gotta buy tires soon. Driver rear is worn. Looks like left turn donuts are in order to even things out.

Hi to all, out for a while, back now.

2006 XKR bought in July 09 with 35,000, now has 40,000. No repairs to date. Replaced the front tires to solve a balance and tracking problem.

Currently three weeks since I bought a new battery ($247). In November I spent $3000 on a really through overhaul, including new front discs & pads, front lower suspension bushes, rear anti-roll bar, several new hoses, all fluids etc etc & some minor paintless dent removal - oh, and fixing the electric boot opener and boot lights (usual wire breakage thing). Car now running faultlessly.

My view is that for any 12 year old car you are going to need to keep on top of routine maintenance and a steady stream of (hopefully minor!) repairs, but at least I have no more depreciation to worry about so I can see the real cost of ownership as the money I spend. Even though it's maintenance costs might be a quarter as much, my wife's new Honda Odyssey in fact costs far more to run because of the depreciation factor alone. I carefully picked a late-model X300 for their reputation for solidity and reliability - I'll tell you in a few years whether I was right!
