Ok...Just changed my 4.0L XKR engine oil and filter (5w-30 castrol edge)
Looks like im also one.... that has a problem with dipsticks giving out incorrect information...(lol)
My dipstick has no part number...(e.g NNE1723NA...XR83-6752-AC...XR82806)
So dont know if its original to the car or not..
It only has two holes for the level marks and 6.6 litres (6.9 qts) takes it to the top hole.
Iv put 7.6 litres (8 qts) in and its 12mm above the top hole on the dipstick...
Not a problem from what i've read on here...so i've just cut a new mark 12mm above the top hole.
This seams to correspond to post 24 by mikegs50...so maybe i do have the original dipstick for the car,who knows.....8qts it is....
I pulled-out my Driver's Handbook from my 2005 XKR for this, and on Page 7-6 Maintenance, there is a Drawing showing what and where the Engine Oil Dip Stick is! Check it out! Then on page #7-13, (Capacities) it shows that both XK8 and XKR have a 8.2 US Quart capacity......So, everybody was wrong including me....I said 8 quarts and it turns-out to be 8.2! Now, how does that make you feel? …..Like a "Dip Stick"?

Filled my XK8-2002 and oil was 10cm (4") above full marker Hole! on the dipstick, easy fix drilled new hole 4" up the dipstick now that's fixed a new problem seems to run a bit smokie, just can't win for trying

No need to mess with the dipstick. Just drill a hole in the sump and fit one of these. You can easily adjust the level to wherever you want in future:
