Default HOW TO: Replace Arm Rest Padding (and fix cupholder) (VIDEO) FAQ

First of all, White XKR gets full credit for this. He created a thread a while back where he described in detail how to remove the leather skin and replace the padding. His thread is right HERE, and if you're going to do this, I highly recommend that you read his whole thread (detailed instructions are on post #11 in that thread).

Before creating this thread, I checked to see if WhiteXKR's instructions had been put in the FAQ thread. I didn't see them their anywhere. If they had been there I would have just added this video to that thread. But since they weren't FAQ'd, I decided to create a whole new thread. But still, without WhiteXKR's instructions I wouldn't have even thought about tackling this job.

Anyway... here's a video I made showing how to replace the arm rest padding, and also how to fix the broken cup holder with super glue.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yp1bopznn9A

In regards to the cup holder, I don't think mine was broken in the typical fashion that is common on so many XK8s. Usually it's the hinge that breaks. On my car it was a piece of plastic that holds the actual cup. I used super glue to fix it, and it seems to be working well. While that may not translate to your cup, at least you can see how the cup holder assembly is removed.

Thanks for the acknowledgement Sam.

I must say, when I first saw that title pop up I had one hand on the phone to call my lawyer

The cup holder really sucks. I'm considering having an 'Americanized' cup holder fabricated. Not sure if I'm going resin or aluminum, but I do know I have to do something about it and luckily there seems to be sufficient room to do something a little different and more secure... This would probably be one of my biggest complaints about the car.

Sam,
Your a braver man than I am, not for taking everything apart on your Jag, but for working on the dinning room table without putting a towel down. As you can tell, my wife has me trained.
Great work on this and all the videos!

If you watch the visor mirror video you'll see that I already gouged the table. I'm smart enough not to work on the fancy table, though.

DOWNLOADING??? Do you want to provide your information voluntarily, or is my copyright lawyer going to have to subpoena Jim?

Awsome! What a patient man you are. By the way, how did you get to be a 'reverend'? Some of your posts (always a delight!) seem more earthy than heavenly.

Hang on a sec! This is good stuff by WhiteXKR. He's like the fashion designer and I'm like handsome model showing off the designer's creation. I really can't take credit.

Great write up initially by WhiteXKR and an awesome job of turning it into a video that is a FAQ now.

Kudos to you both and thanks for sharing
