Hurricanes , ebay parts and mp3s
Good day to all:
Well bought my 99 XK8 in Nova Scotia ( a hurricane went through)
Shipped it home to Newfoundland ( and hurricane Igor went through with a vengeance )
No damage but had to move her away from the trees !!!
Anyway am going to ebay to buy a water pump , thermostat housing, belt pulleys , cam tensioners etc )
Want to do some preventative maint on those outstanding issues
I see there are parts to be had but can anyone suggest where to go there??
Or one company that had superior parts
I take it not all water pumps etc are created equal
Any suggestions I would appreciate
Thanks in advance
Howard
PS: One more thing. I used an old tape cassette that was made to plug your cd player into. Remember those !! Anyway dug it out and put it in the cassette player and plugged my MP3 in. Worked like a charm. Found it to be a very cheap way to hook up MP3.

Regarding parts sourcing, I have had good experiences with Welsh at www.welshint.com for over 35 years. Talk to Herky Kort (yeah I know) it's not a misspelling. Their web site is sparse so if you don't see what you need call in.
Their stuff seems pretty good and the prices are reasonable. I don't know exacly how they do it but they come up with new OEM components as well as recycled stuff. The new parts are sometimes 1/2 of dealer price.
When I was a deal younger I remember crawling thru storage barns in southern Ohio with Welsh the elder looking for E type bits. (he wasn't so old then and neither was I).

I know this is a little off-topic, but last night I was playing with the factory nav system. I noticed that it didn't have the option for setting the clock to Atlantic time! My wife and I came to the conclusion that it must be too cold in Nova Scotia/Newfoundland to want a Jag convertible. I guess we were wrong!

I know I got the following from eBay/Amazon/Kragen for a 2001 XKR 50K miles
0/ Jag manual CD $25 eBay
1/ Water pump $50 eBay
2/ 2nd tensionser + Rocker gaskets $210 eBay
3/ Belts Kragen $130 for main and supercharger.
4/ Transmission oil $50 (case of 12 qtr Amazon) + dipstick $25 + filter + elect connector $50 eBay
5/ O2sensors Amazon lower $75, upper $85 bosch ones.
6/ Coolant Autozone $44 for 3 gallons
7/ Amazon Oil $9, Fuel$14, Air filers $11
8/ Brake rotors + pads front eBay $150
Did all this at 50K miles.
New Tires I'm about to get Hankook American Discount Tires $741 after $60 mail in rebate thru end of Nov. I have Michelin P/S2 which lasted 15K miles and are good but not worth the $1250!
