Default Hydraulic fluid leakage

I am looking for opinions regarding stop leak products. I have a '98 XK8 with 105k miles on it. I love the car! I have been unemployed for quite a while and have trouble keeping up on all the maint on my car. I do most myself. Recently I have been getting leaks from the power steering. Leaks from the pump, fittings, rack...lots of leaks. The cost to repair is out of my budget at this time ($1200). In my hopefully logical thinking, I decided that since the power steering uses tranny fluid that tranny fluid stop leak would work in the power steering. I put in a can about 5 months ago and after a couple weeks no more leaks. Still no leaks. The way the stuff works is that when a leak happens as the leaking fluid hits the atmosphere it hardens forming a new seal. Since this has worked with the power steering I wonder if it will work on the power top system? Thoughts please.

willtoliv, I've moved your thread to the XK8/R section as the top experts are here.

Or should I say top, top experts?

My opinion would be not to use it, the pump unit on these systems are horrendously expensive and there is a manual system developed by Dennis07 https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...eration-89085/ that could be used while preparing/saving to repair the fault causing the leak.

I agree with Norri about not risking use of a stop-leak additive in the convertible top system. The downside (pump damage) is too grim to contemplate.

Here's a direct link to the manual-latch conversion instructions, if that's of interest.

Good luck.

Unhappy Awful noise from the rear

Thank you so much for the replies. The noise is intermittent while I am driving and it lasts only a few seconds. Sounds like a pump that needs fluid but last time I checked it looked full. I didn't see how to fill it or with what kind of fluid to use. Now I am afraid to drive the car until I resolve the problem.
Thanks again for such a fast response.
