Hi, this Martin in CA.
My new project is my 2001 XK8 in Roman Bronze with Champagne interior and tan top with 108,000 miles.
Question: what types / finish colors were used on wood trim on Jaguar xk8's in 2001? I am familiar with burled walnut but this car has a wood trim color that looks
like a much lighter shade of wood. It isn't burled walnut. Have heard that Jaguar had problems with wood finishing in 2000 - 2001 XK8's due to failure of stains and
polyurethane clear coat.
My car has what appears to be discoloration to the dash panel pieces, particularly instrument cluster. There is no indication of sun damage on any other sections of the car including paint, rubber seals and top and upholstery (all very good). First owner kept this convertible in his garage in Anaheim HIlls.
If I can identify the wood, perhaps I'll get lucky finding an undamaged instrument cluster matching trim piece from one of the vendors online. Just looking at the offerings onlline is concerning since I don't know what I'm asking about.

Thanks for your advice,
Martin

There was indeed an issue with the lacquer on MY2001 cars. Does it look like the pic in this post from MediaBobNY?

Love the colour, and quite rare, too, as only offered for that year

I think the brochure at the time did list the wood trim names, but I don't think there is any point in trying to identify which type you have, as nobody else will recognise the name and the chances of finding a matching piece is very low. You are better off buying a complete matching set from a breakers, maybe even in a colour you prefer to the existing veneer. If you have a sat nav car it will be easy to find a replacement set.

Thanks to all for response,

Will take the car into the sunshine this coming weekend, hoping that our torrential west coast rain stops by that time.
Pictures will be posted as to the physical appearance of the dashboard wood trim as soon as I can get good light.
The instrument cluster (speedo etc) are the worst with a very dark color obscuring all wood patterns.
Some of the other panels have faded clear lacquer and partially obscured wood patterns.
Interesting because this car did not stay outside under the first owner (23 years).
Will write back with more detailed pics.
Regards,
Martin

Or take a look at British Autowood https://britishautowood.com/jaguar-xk8%2Fxkr

Saul does excellent refinishing work. Great guy and very supportive. I have bought from him twice in the past.
