I’ve just had my detroit split rim wheels powder coated on my 2005 XKR x100. The car ran perfectly beforehand but, after refitting, one of the rear wheels interferes with the raised metal shroud that runs circumferentially round the inner wheel arch, see pic. The other side has a full finger space clearance. When I swap the wheels around, the problem transfers to the other side. My initial theory was that when the painter split the rim, he didn’t mask or remove paint from the mating surfaces causing the wheel inner and rim to sit apart, ie wider. This doesn’t quite add up because the rim fits together snugly with the inner wheel (no offset from the outside). The external appearance is the same for left and right hand sides. In any case, this wouldn’t account for a full finger width offset on the inside. I doubt even the titanium bolts would reach. I’ve roughly measured the wheel rim widths, which appear consistent on both sides- 26cm front, 28cm rear. Please can someone tell me whether the wheel rims are all the same on the detroits or is there something the painters could have done by mismatching the rims to the inners? Any other theories. I feel somewhat baffle or maybe stupid Interference between tyre and inner arch. External appearance of interfering side Good side Interfering side
at something so fundamental.

If that last pic is on the rear it is wrong, the spider is a front.
Rear is on left, front on right. Difference in back surface curvature is apparent.
