Default Installing lowering springs...sanity check

So one thing I really feel needs to be done to the car is it needs to be lowered. The wheel gap, especially in the back, just bothers me. I have been researching lowering options and figured I would go ahead and do it. I've installed springs, coilovers, etc on other cars, without much hassle.

I am now in a situation where I dont really have the space to do it myself so I went ahead and asked a local shop what it would run to install a set of springs...just labor. I was told that on this car, its a huge job to do the rears...like 10 hours. Which of course would be like $1,500 in labor. Am I missing something here? Is this normal?

It's not 10 hours to do the rears. They quoted you to pull the rear end out of the car just because they don't have the proper spring compressor for you car. At $1500 quoted on just the rear, I'd call the dealer and get a quote. It'll probably be cheaper.

No way 10 hours unless the shop is incompetent.

Rears could be done in less than 3 hours with a lift and air tools.

It took me about 5 hours using jacks, Jack stands, hand tools and having never done it before.

On a rust free car, rears only should be less than $250 Labor or you are paying a premium for a lack of skill.

I am going to agree with Paul. I used the link he provided above and had my springs and shocks replaced in a couple hours.

Thanks for the feed back guys. I went to a second specialty shop and was quoted 8 hours. Not sure what to do. If I had the space to do it myself I would. Bit of a bummer considering it was one of my only goals for the car when I got it.

I had a hard time finding a mechanic to do mine. When I did, it was cheap, but he also told me he never wanted to do it again!
