Default Instrument cluster bulbs

A little help please with the following.

Main instrument cluster. I understand there are 8 bulbs in total, 4 each of two bulb types. But I'm finding references pointing to multiple bulb types.
Bulb #1 ... spec'd as type 194, or type Sylvania 2821
Bulb #2 ... spec'd as type 37 or 24 or Sylvania 2723

Can someone simplify this for me? Recommendations please on the best picks and/or brands for each of the two types.

TIA.

Here is the best bulb cross-reference site with incredibly detailed data. Just put the type number in the search box at the top of the page: http://www.donsbulbs.com/cgi-bin/r/b.pl/194~ansi.html

Save yourself the hassle and just get the replacements with the holders from Jaguar. The Jaguar OEM replacements for the LARGER bulbs, including the holders, is LJA4390BA and the part number for the smaller ones is XR83865.

This is why Jaguar supply replacement bulbs with holders:

These are from my 2005 XK8. Two of the bulbs were still working but I hate to think what that overheating was doing inside the Instrument Pack!

Those bulbs were clear to start with? Yikes!

My '01 never lost a dash bulb. My '03 has lost two already: one in the 3-gauge group, and one in the main cluster. Go figure.

The main reason I ended up just biting the bullet and ordering new bulbs/holders from the dealer (really not a big deal--only about $6 each) is that when I was talking to my local independent Jaguar mechanic about replacing the burned out bulb, he said that oftentimes the holders sometimes burn or die. He recommended getting spare holders as well so I just went ahead and did so.

The burned out bulb in my car was still perfectly clear but I could see that one of the fine filament wires inside had broken.
