Default Interior of convertible top

The interior of my car's top has what appears to be rust stains (linear appearing, perhaps where it folds).

Anyone have experience cleaning or familiar with technique to correct that problem?

Always grateful for your expertise and help!

Do a search; the stains are thought to be breakdown of the padding inside the top. I think Jaguar recommends rubbing alcohol and Phil has sprayed his with black. I know it has been addressed in other threads.
Good luck, keep us informed.

Yup, sprayed and recovered parts of a pillars black. Was some work but looks amazing and holding up well.

You have the classic case of the foam backing breaking down. Before you use any cleaners, vacuum the headliner really well. You may be surprised how much comes off this way.

After that, Jag does recommend alcohol and diluted Simple Green will also work. Make sure you clean out wider than the stain or it will leave an "edge" that may look worse. If the vacuuming works well enough for you, baby wipes can do simple clean ups pretty well.

Heya Mike. Looks like our cars have much in common.

So... I wouldn't 'mix' the alcohol and simple green, would I?

I'm thinking start simple. Vaccuum. Take a baby wipe to the areas, then if needed follow up with the alcohol/simple green. But mix 'em?

Thanks!

Thanks, Mike 66. Just curious... do a search? Like where / how? General internet or here on forum? Along the lines of 'how to clean headliner of XK8?'

There's a search function on the forum, or an internet search will often take you back to a thread on this site. Either way works.
I would not mix the alcohol and Smple Green as you said. If one doesn't work, try the other. Good luck and keep us posted on what works for you.

No, do not mix. Use one or the other. As always try in a less conspicuous area first to judge results. And remember (even with the baby wipes) to clean beyond the dirty spot so it blends.

I've tried simple searched on forum and it's been a bust. Went to internet, put in the search and -- voila -- brought me to the appropriate forum string here.

Thanks for details to get me trying again.

Guess my prob sounds like more than just an effort to 'clean' since it's the orange, from foam (sounds like) prob.

I'll just add replacing the headliner to the list.

Meanwhile, I can give the alcohol a shot.

Appreciate it!

Sandy
