Intermittent oil leak in a 2004 XKR?
I had a very Jaguary day yesterday:
- While backing out of the garage I realized the parking aides were silent.
- When my passenger tried to adjust the seat, the motors first ran in one direction only and then stopped completely.
- While messing with the seat controls I smelled hot oil and saw a steady drip under the engine, large enough to have formed a pool several inches across. Finger-confirmed it to be oil.
Needless to say, the car immediately went back in the garage with a piece of cardboard under it. But this is where it gets weird. After the engine had cooled down I pulled out the cardboard. There was not a hint of oil on it. The dipstick showed the oil level was somewhat low, but still within spec. I backed out the car again and let it idle in the driveway for a while, just like it did when I was examining the seat earlier. Not even one drop of oil this time. Unfortunately, I didn't note exactly where the drops came from; figured I'd have plenty of time since drips rarely stop on their own. I suppose it could be the transmission, but it certainly felt like motor oil.
In the 6-7 weeks I have had the car (always garage-parked when not in use) it has not dropped a single drop of oil on the garage floor, so it seems to be a condition where oil can leak when running but only sometimes. I will jack up the car this weekend and see if I can at least tell where the dripping came from.
Thoughts from anybody on what to look or test for?
As for the other two problems, I could not hear any clicking from any of the parking aid sensors when in reverse, so presumably fuse, control module, or harness issue.
I will try to swap the passenger and driver seat modules to confirm if the problem there is the seat module issue (which seems likely based on what I've read here). I may have to unbolt the passenger seat to get to that module.
Good thing I hadn't made any particular plans for this weekend!

So the good news is, I found the leak. The bad news is, it's fuel leaking, not oil.
Here's what I think happened:
Every time I noticed this intermittent leak, it was after backing the car out onto my asphalt driveway from a cold start. The gasoline seems to dissolve some of the binder in the asphalt, making it feel greasy and I therefore assumed it to be oil (should have smelled it closer
).
It probably leaked some on my concrete garage floor too, but dried up before I noticed it and didn't leave a noticeable stain.
Anyway, the leak seems to run along the left bank header towards the rear of the engine and then drips down next to the cat. Needless to say, I won't be driving this one until fixed. From researching the threads here, particularly those from member MAXDWG, it seems likely to be a fuel damper leak, but I am going to try to get a visual confirmation of that. Since the leak is on the left side, you can just barely lay eyes on the damper below the intercooler, so I should be able to peak at it when a helper starts the engine. May take multiple attempts since it doesn't happen every cold start, another sign that it's the damper acting up from what I've gathered.
Now I need to make plans to remove the supercharger. I've had the car about six weeks...
Edit: Since this thread title is now misleading, I'll make a new one.

At some point earlier this year, I thought I had that dampener leak, but instead it was the other thing on the driver's side fuel line that crosses above the valve cover. New o-rings fixed that. The dampener involves removing the supercharger (not hard but time consuming), and removing the fuel rails, taking out the damper and welding that hole shut. The dampener is not necessary. After removing it from the system, you will hear injector tick a little louder, but it doesn't affect function in the slightest.
Thanks!
