Intermittent Stalling
Snow had melted from the roads so I took my '02 XK8 out for a run on Thursday. I'd gone about 200 yards when someone backed out of their drive in front of me. When I applied the breaks the car died. Restarted easily so I continued on my way. Drove about 40 miles with no problem. I attributed the problem to having seat in the garage for over a week. The next day I took her out on some errands things were fine until I was about a mile from home when it stalled again as I was breaking for a stop sign. I saw no warning lights or messages either time. Does anyone know what's going on? Thanks. Doc
There are several possibilities, but the easiest and often overlooked is a builup of sludge around the throttle butterfly.
Remove the air intake hose carefully, the plastic accordion pleats get brittle with age. Use a piece of a rag wound on a stick sprayed with carb cleaner or brake cleaner. to clean the butterfly and the throat. Do not spray cleaner into the throttle body.
If that doesn't work come back for more ideas.

This link should help you with the throttle body cleaning. Whatever you do do not use an abrasive brush or scrape the crud off any part of the throttle body.

If your car continues to go into a fault I would suggest attaching an OBDII code reader and drive the car. Most of the time the reader will capture a temporary fault. This could be a battery, fuel pump or a throttle body issue or a plug issue. Hard to find without codes!
