XK8 / XKR ( X100 ) 1996 - 2006

Default It's a new one for me...

Past week or so once in awhile I've noticed an abrupt up shift to 5th. Seems to want to throw 5th, holds on a second ( no slip) then up shift harder than usual.
Today my '99 XK8 started to downshift coming to a stop a little hard.
One time after a couple stop signs, hit the gas lightly, engine revved, hit first with a tire chirp.
I've had the car for over 5k now, no leaks, car has 53k miles.
Otherwise hard push trans shifts fine, no other signs of weakness. Could this be computer issues?
Last week for the first time, I did use the " S" sport shift button and manually shifted the dual gate a little. Any ideas?? thank you, Rich.

Classic symptoms of a failed 'A' drum. Hard shifts into low, revs then slams into low.

Lots of info on this forum with a search.

Default Trans seems to be working fine now.

Hi all, boy are these xk's fussy. My transmission issues seemed to be an electronic control issue more than anything else.


As many of you on this board recommended at times, I did a hard re-flash. ( undo ground on batt, hold to positive terminal/ clamp for a moment) Seems to have taken care of problem. Did about 50 miles or so. Transmission shifting fine. Keep your fingers crossed. Thanks, Rich
