Default Jag Tech Qs - Fuelling Adaptations Drive Cycle

I am looking for any input/tips/techniques from dealer techs.

I had a devil of a time last week after doing some TB work and a leak down test on a 2001 XK8. After the work was done I lost the fueling adaptations so I had to restore these doing the manual drive cycles. Normally I have no problems restoring P1111, but it took me almost four hours of playing to finally get P1111 back.

I completed the first two steps in park, which always go pretty easily, then I drove (with an assistant) steps 3 and 4. I can pretty much "feel" the adaptations clicking in, but I couldn't seem to nail the 3rd level, trying to hold 18 to 22 g/s Mass Air Flow Rate....I think. The 4th level is usually the most difficult for me, but on this car, I think the 3rd level wasn't clicking in, or I just couldn't hold 18 to 22 for 2 whole minutes. Any reason why that would be, perhaps a flat spot in the MAFS? The MAFS was cleaned.

Some Questions:

1. Is there any tolerance on the 2 minute hold? I'm assuming this is overkill to ensure the adaptation.
2. I use 4th gear for level 3 and 3rd gear for level 4. Any tips you can give to improve this, or is it what you use?
3. Any tips suggestions in general about completing fuel adpatations?

For which model year car?

If you just speak about the fuel adaptation, you can see for some AJ27 model years (at least mine, not sure about AJ26) the fuel adaptation monitor is viewable in the WDS/IDS. There you only need 30 seconds per group instead of the 2 minutes.

You could even do it standing still, put it in gear, and hold your brakes, but honestly I can't recommend this of course...

MY was given in the first sentence, second par. I am needing info about manual DC restoration. My WDS was unavailable at the time. I suspect the answers will all be the same, but I am looking for those with experience w/o WDS or IDS.

Missed that

As it is also a AJ27, I would expect the same 30 seconds per group. Once you are slightly out of range, it takes a little time again before it restarts counting.

Sorry, have no experience without the unit.
