Default P0057 code

As luck would have it I threw a CEL today and it's P0057;
P0057 EMS
OBD II
HO2 Sensor heater control circuit
low resistance –
bank 2, downstream (2/2)
Heated oxygen sensors
monitor drive cycle – page 5
(Oxygen sensor heaters)
2 N None EM80
-093
HO2 Sensor 2/2 heater control circuit:
short circuit to ground
HO2 Sensor 2/2 heater failure

I tried resetting the drive cycle but no luck. Every time I clear the CEL, after a restart it comes back within 1 minute.

How do I fix this?

Replace the right side down stream O2 sensor.

Tks, been researching and figured I had to replace the O2 sensor. Should I go ahead and replace all 4. Finding prices from $50 to $200 each. Also from what I've read these are a pig to replace.

So is the down stream the bottom sensor, stupid question, but want to be sure.

SNG Barratt catalog says upstream is #C2S51801 and downstream is #C2C25956.

Here's what Rock Auto lists, any one better than the other?

In my opinion, there is not much difference between the lowest priced and the highest priced. No one ever publishes such things as mean time between failure.

If it works, it works and will probably will continue to work.

OK, been reading threads on this issue. Mine is just the heater circuit failure not the O2 circuit. So will try checking all wiring connections and see if I can meter the circuit.

So am I correct in assuming this will not cause a lean condition as the actual sensor is still working?

Some of the differences in O2 sensors are the wiring harness, some come fixed to correct length with plug and others you need to measure the length and cut to your size (they also come with a plug, you just have to make the harness).
I believe there are impedance issues on wire length, or so said the directions in the ones I've gotten. Check out the Bosch site, they have good writeup on them.

Default SNG Barrett is expensive!

Too expensive, but parts are genuine Jaguar OEM. And their catalogs are superb.

the heater is in the 02 sensor and yes replace it and quit making this hard. it is a filament basically like a light bulb and they burn out. I don't even charge diag at work for these type failures

Absolutely agree. Don't bother procrastinating or entertaining any other possibilities. As Brutal said, just replace the O² sensor and 99% of the time, that was the problem. No need to check current or do any crazy diagnostics. And trust me, it may be a bit difficult to access, but you CAN get to these sensors, and they DO come out pretty easily. Wear knuckle busting protection gloves to get the socket on, and i just cut the wire rather than use the specialized O² sensor socket tool, but i use the tool to install the new one, unless you trust a hand tightening, lol. Oh, and ALWAYS buy a Denso or better sensor, never get a universal sensor that you splice your old connector onto. Good luck, you'll save a TON of money doing this yourself.
