Does anybody know what causes a PO 414 error code and how to fix the problem so the code doesn't come back?
It has no effect on engine performance. My mechanic turned it off but it came back on. He said something about air input into the exhaust and it might be an air valve. We looked for a valve or solenoid. What and where could it be located? Could an air supply pipe to the exhaust be broken? If so, where in the world would I start looking for the problem? Help, Please.

 

Try posting on the X350 forum. My XJ6 throws the code occasionally and it's for the secondary air pump which supplies air to the exhaust system under startup. You can check the thread below, but I'm not sure if it applies to your car.

The P0414 Diagnostic Trouble Code doesn't show up in the DTC Summaries manual, but it shows up as P041400 in the Workshop Manual, which you can download in six sections free from this forum:

P041400 is defined on pdf page 1931 of the Powertrain section. It indicates a problem with the Secondary Air Injection Valve electrical circuit (not necessarily a problem with the valve itself). To diagnose the cause, the manual refers us to Pinpoint Test G528708p4, which begins on pdf page 1942.

Just to confirm: the PO is P0 (people often say Oh for zero) and the final 00 of the 6-character code are commonly dropped, leaving 4 chars.
