Owen, Damian,

Great post, it'll surely become a reference for folks in the future.

In that spirit let me add 2 things:
1. "Fir tree" refers to the door card's plastic holding pins. Their texture will remind you of a fir (aka pine) tree.
2. One or two of these fir tree pins is likely to break, especially the 1st time you do the job.

This post will help with that:

FWIW figure it'll take 20-25 minutes the first to remove the door card, it'll be down to 5 minutes before you know it.

Getting that little protector plug out of the door handle's screw area takes the longest amount of time.

One more heads up: when you disconnect the puddle light wire to remove the door card - expect the connector's silver safety retainer to do everything it can to launch itself into the bowels of your shop. ( guess how I know ;-)) protect it with your hand.

Retainer clip info UK.
This is thread is tremendous thank you. As a UK owner of an XKR Convertible, I had terrible trouble sourcing the retainer clip that sits at the top rear of the door card. Finally I found a supplier which is below.

parts@jaguarlandroverclassic.com
Product Code:: C2N3836
approx UKP32 delivered.
fixed in place with Gorilla Glue two part epoxy.

hope this helps others with the same problem.

Nice! There's also a company making new repros, they are overpriced, although supposedly also stronger.

An option that worked for me (so far!) was to just plastic weld repair the clip. I used lots of zig-zag steel wire across the welds, and it seemed very robust. Somehow I managed to not take pictures of it though...
