I have a 27 year old XK8. Bought it a few months ago. Just resprayed paint damage on the painted housing of the wing mirror, but the "fixing" (sorry if I don't know the technical term) is faded, dull and when I took the masking tape off for the painting of the housing, it pulled off more of whatever was on the plastic mount. Is this just laquer? If I sprayed it with a lacquer coat, would that smarten it up a bit / put it back the way it should be? Responses much appreciated! Some photos attached. Yes I know the paint job isn't perfect, it is just "a lot better than it was" For a 5k car, it doesn't make sense to do anything than that for me. My perfect car, a 2005 Seafrost XKR, with ivory, a clock and real wood dash is taking time to find! For some reason I couldn't post pictures of the issue, so they are in a separate post.

The rest of the paintwork is almost perfect. No rust. No rust underneath. Japanese import. 1997 XK8. Happy enough for 5k. Guess it is just lacquer on the wing mirrors then. Will spray them with lacquer.
