Well it is Thursday and still have not had time to replace the tank fuel float and it looks like I may not get to it until mid next week. I am so sorry I put you off, I had all intentions of getting it done as promised and posting the results if I am correct and all went well. I am up to my elbows trying to get things done at the new house. I had no idea that our to-do list was that detailed.

write and read with google translator . gracias amigo .
Looking at the new float and seeing it is a potentiometer I see how it could fail. I think with the number of fill-ups and bouncing around in the tank it would take a lot of abuse over time. This is my new float and I would not know if my theory is correct until I remove the old one. I made a few tests on the system to verify that my problem was not anything other than the float.

Drain the tank if you are going to pull the float, remove the tire cover in the trunk and the fabric that is against the tank below the rear window. In the middle of the tank is your fuel tank sending unit with a black and red wire attached to it.
If you are looking to replace the fuel pump then you need to remove the tank and to do that you need to remove the fuel lines, if you are replacing the fuel level indicator you do not need to remove the tank only the fuel.
Gracias Gus , 2001 xkr convertible, I see no other way to reach floating equals xk8 2000 pictures jagrepair
The photos are for a 1999 but the only difference between accessing the fuel level indicator is that the model year 2000 and up has a metal cover at the tank that needs to be removed and you will see this when you remove the cover in photo #3. I hope this helps.

However, the sticker on that tank indicates that it's actually a 2001 XKR. Also, that it is a ROW (non US) unit.
My 2000 XKR Coupe does have the Sending Unit on the Rear of the Tank but i think that the 2001 and up cars have it in the Tank Top Assembly.
My Sending Unit is intermittent and I have a new Sender to install as soon as the Fuel Level is low enough.

Thank you Paul. I could be wrong on this but I was not sure if we were having a communication problem with him or me. If you are correct and I think you are he will know the moment he pulls the cover and it is not there. The subtle changes between cars at time can confuse me but I get confused easily.
My 2001 XK 8 has the same issue. The code reader says it is the "low fuel level sensor" . Not sure what that is, other than what the name suggests. If it can be fixed for $100 or less, OK; if not, I'll just continue to monitor the odometer.
