Default Kano Aero Kroil - available outside the USA?

Whenever there's a discussion about freeing frozen bolts, the name 'Kroil' generally comes up as the best release oil available.

I can find US suppliers online with 10 oz aerosol cans available at around $13. Unfortunately US to UK shipping at a further $24 plus the possibility of UK Customs inspection at £36 makes it expensive to purchase from the USA.

Anyone know of a UK or any European stockist?

No - I hadn't heard of it.

Checking their website shows ACF 50 ismainly intended as a corrosion inhibitor treatment but it is also a rust release compound. It has to be an improvement on WD40 and they list a stockist three miles away from me so I'll give it a try.

I'm still keen to find an outlet for Kroil as this has such a good reputation.

Thanks,
Graham

ACF50 is very good. I use it on my boat as well as for rusted things at home...might try it on myself !

Is this the same product as shown here? ACF-50 ANTI CORROSION SCOOTER SPRAY PROTECTION ACF50 | eBay

and, although we are in the UK, do you think the price seems reasonable? And I see that ACF50 also do an anti-corrosion grease - is this also something worth considering?

Thanks! Dave

Hi Dave, yes that's the stuff.
Used mainly by Bikers and Light Aircraft enthusiasts.
Have no idea if it will penetrate as well as Kroil, but at least it's available here in Blighty.
As to the price, well compared to the near £100 / $160 it costs to fill up an XK with petrol here, it's not an issue for me !

Default Make your own rust buster

You can mix up a 50:50 concentration of Automatic Transmission Fluid and Acetone to create a good solvent to release rusted bolts and the like.

Spurlee,

That's some cocktail................I reckon one shot and I wouldn't be worried about rusted bolts anymore.

Is that genuine or are you just seeing if I'll blow my eyebrows off?

It's for real. In the MGA world, we know rust. Somebody, I forget who, did a test a couple of years back comparing this brew to liquid wrench and the like. Top performer, it was.

Has anyone tried ATF+WD40 as a combination?

There are some other published recipes. All of them have ATF and some type of solvent to wick the lubricant.

A long forgotten favourite is heat + beeswax. Heat the fastener, apply beeswax and allow it to wick into the threads.
