Default Key Fob

I need a key fob for my XK8. The dealership price is crazy! Is that my only option?

moving to the XK8/XKR section based on model year of car. There are options via e-bay much cheaper and there are procedures in the XK8/XKR how-tos that will walk you through reprogramming the new fob

Just make sure you get one from a '96-'99 model (all 4 buttons are exactly the same size on these) from a US seller. Other countries may use different frequencies and may not work.

Also, have you tried to replace the battery and cleaning the button contacts with alcohol? That often brings them back to life.

Thank you. Mine actually got 'broken' by someone I loaned my car to while out of state. Appreciate the details to help with my search.

If you're thinking about buying a replacement fob from fleaBay, the important details to look for are on the back of your current key fob: frequency and type (my UK fob works on 433 MHz and is type LA2610BA). These must be exactly right for your car, otherwise there is a strong likelihood the replacement will not work. It's worth checking - most sellers will be happy to give you those details in advance.

Getting a new fob to work with your car seems daunting the first time. But it's actually pretty easy if you follow the step-by-step guide in the various 'how to' threads.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes, Colin

My advice if you go the ebay route, use seller remotzforless. I ordered several "good as new" reconditioned guaranteed to work remotes but all three had buttons that didnt work. Or did with major pressing. I found remotezforless's listing and sent them a message with all my numbers on the back and they sent a new on the that worked perfectly. It's brand new not used and I think I paid 53.00. I programmed in 3 minutes! Mine is a 2002.

Thank you, aardvark64. I appreciate the details. Happily I found the broken one so I can get the numbers from the back. I've only been on for days and so far... Amazing help already!
