kill the seat belt chime
I searched and could not find anything on this. I want to kill the seat belt chime. On my 4Runner I just snipped a wire under my seat. The XK8 I suspect is a little more complicated. Has anyone done this before? If so, what is the magic process?
thanks

Interestingly enough, I once stumbled upon a plastic insert that was essentially a replacement buckle, that you could plug in to stop the chime while keeping the belt unbuckled. That would be a quick-and-dirty solution. I found it on ebay while I was searching for those little seat belt cover caps. At the time I wondered if anyone would actually want to do this, but here it is.
EDIT: Here is one, in (probably fake) carbon fiber: http://www.ebay.com/itm/CARBON-FIBER...4ce59c&vxp=mtr

It can be turned off in the XK and that could be the thread you recall. I haven't come across a similar procedure for the earlier XK8.

Hi Graham,
I'm going from memory but I think it is to do with buckling and unbuckling the seat belt 8 times.
I remember the thread as at the time I looked into it for my old one, in the end I couldn't be bothered. I'm sure it was for the XK8 though.
I could be wrong, memory is not what it once was.

Actually, I like wearing my seatbelt. My routine is to put the key in the ignition first then take care of other things like changing glasses, adjusting steering column, etc. In the meantime the seatbelt nanny is chiming away. Being an adult, I really don't need the Nanny State to tell me what to do.

The seatbelt chime won't trigger until you put it into gear. (memory may be faulty here)

Well, no wonder I couldn't turn it off, it was never turned on in the first place I guess.

Tell you what ... get in, turn key to position 2, do your thing ... crank. Meanwhile the system is doing its self checks and booting. The computer is happier that way.

The front seat belt buckles are secured to a moving inboard seat rail that enables the front seat to be moved without adjustment to the seat belt assembly. Visual and audible warnings operate if the driver seat belt tongue is not installed to the seat belt buckle when the driver seat is occupied and the ignition is switched to position I or II. The front seat belt buckles are fitted with sensors which form an integral part of the Air Bag Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). For additional information, refer to .
