Default Largest XK8 Wheels and Tires

Guys,
Does someone know the largest wheel and tire combination we can put on the rear of our XK8s? I am currently running black powder coated Asteroids from my old XJR that are 8 inches wide and I want to have the rear wheels widened to allow for the absolute widest wheel and tire combination. I believe later XKRs have 10 inch wide wheels, is that the widest that will fit?
Thanks all

You could go to 10.5" with 295/30/20 tires (largest I know off).

I am using the standard Montreal 20" wheels which are 10" wide, with 295/35/20 tires (stock has 285/30/20).

The 285/30/20 on the rear of the XKR is the largest stock size. It looks to me that 295 would fit okay, but any larger would be pushing it. The wheel offset is critical in sizes this large and not many folks have the information needed to pick the right wheels when going wider than stock. A problem I have had is that 30 profile tires make the car very tender to drive, as potholes will ruin the rims easliy. I had one of these $2500 wheels ruined by a pothole that all my other cars would pass over with no problem. I find myself leaving the car at home because of this.

Default Vortex!

Hi Platinummaker.
Here is a picture of what AVos described. These are the Jaguar vortex 20 inch wheels. from the 2010 XKR-S.
front is 9.5 inch wide and the stern is 10.5 inch. The back wheels miss the arch by about a mm. My car, IMHO, looks brilliant, squat and planted. I love the look.
I have seen some custom 22 inch chrome blingers on a US custom car and it looked, oh! so wrong.
These just about work with the adapters.

Best of luck,
Colin.

Now my eyes are killing me....

And the value of that XKR dropped a good $10K with those Conestoga wagon wheels stuck on it....

Did they actually have to lift the car to install those wheels?

Red ostrich interior? And the godawful wheels seem to be their main selling point. I think the gas station evergreen air freshener hanging from the shifter says it all.

Default Largest XK8 Wheels and Tires - Front

I prefer a non-staggered setup. So that brings up the question: What is the largest tire that will fit on the front?

I am currently running 265/40s on 9x18" rims all around (Jaguar Flutes). Will a larger tire on 10" rims fit the front without scraping on an XK8 lowered about an inch? If so, how wide can the tire go? And what should the offset be? I would like to leave the fender liners in place.

If too big, what is the tire width limit given a 9.5" rim? What offset for these rims? I still prefer 18" diameter rims; larger looks hot but starts getting into issues.

You really like extremes? I'd prefer a 19 or 20" rim, anything else is too big or too small for my tastes. If I were a shrink, I'd say you've got borderline personality disorder.

Hi Guys,
Just wanted to check in on my rear wheel/ tire upgrade. Thanks to your input, I went with the stock 18 x8 inch asteroid wheels off my earlier XJR widened to 10 inches. Tires are 285x40x18 Nitto 555's. 295's might barely fit too, but I didn't want to get greedy the first time out as the car is lowered close to 2 inches. It was close, but no rubbing or scraping. I have H&R 1 inch spacers on them as well.
The widening was done by Eric Vaughn Machine in Southern Cal. (No affiliation). He did a great job. Cost $300/wheel.
Thanks again for everyone's continued help.

So what are the size of the tires. Im trying to see if 305 or 295 would fit into the stock 20" rims

The new setup looks good...and I think the offset on the rear is perfect. I've been considering pushing my 8.5/9.5 staggered wheels outward a bit with spacers, but since my ride height is nearly stock, it would look silly unless I lowered the rear at least. Just too much work and cost for me at the moment, but perhaps a project down the road.

More pics?? How's the ride? I ask because xk8 convertibles have serious chassis flex, did lowering it make it much worse? Or is it still about the same?

Default R20 BBS PARIS (9J +10J) with 255/40R20 + 295/35R20 - will it work on the car?

Hi!

That's very interesting. For original R20 BBS Paris rims I would like to go 255/40R20 (9J) front and 295/35R20 (10J) rear - my car (XKR 2002) isn't lowered yet, nevertheless - does front tires in that size rub anything inside of arches, or not? From my research, although front arches are big enough, there is very little of free space, especially when wheels are turned out. I'm about to buy new tires, kindly advise from your experience.

Thank you in advance,
Vadim

20"? 22"? 24" 26"? Boring! Want big? Go BIG! How about some 30" DUB Zveet Floaters? But be thoughtful; don't forget a stepladder for your mother-in-law...
