Default Dreal

Hi Guys,

The visit to the DREAL was not totally satisfactory, the car failed! Two items did not meet the requirements. 1 - the warning light on the rear fog lamp switch failed to light. 2 - the four marker lights on the bumpers are illegal in France.
1 - is the bulb in the switch replaceable? how is the switch removed?
2 - does anyone with an XK8 in France have this problem? the tester has asked that I paint over the marker lights the same as the body colour.

These faults are so important that I need to send some photographs once the problems are addressed.

I want to keep the marker lights so I am proposing ro kut some modellers plastic sheeting to fit the cut outs and spray them to match the bumpers and then when i have the Carte Gris replace the marker lights.

maybe i should have taken a bottle of wine after all.

Regards

Matthew,

They're certainly making you jump through hoops with this.

1. the Console Switch Module has replaceable bulbs. Dealer gave me them by mistake when I needed the larger Instrument Pack bulbs.

Part Numbers
LNA5180BA - clear
LNA5180CA - blue

2. the tester will accept photo evidence of the painted markers and doesn't want to inspect the car again? Photoshop!

Hi,

Update on the DREAL, the Attestation arrived yesterday, yippee!!! So it is down to the Prefecture in Sarlat early Monday morning armed with all the documents so I should have the Carte Gris within a couple of weeks. Unfortunately i am going back to London for a month, someone needs my services there, more work I think, but I have a Jaguar Driving Day next Saturday.

Does anyone know where the Cobra alarm is located on a 1998 car? Cobra have been helpful with some information and will be able to help me reset the alarm, all I have to do is find the thing so that I can get the model number.

Hope someone can help.

Regards

Matthew

Well done, hold on tight when you go to the Prefecture - my Carte Grise was €1,200.
Don't forget your passport + a utility bill.

Mine was over €1,700, including the pollution tax. Ouch!

Why don't you just PhotoShop the pictures to make it look as if you have removed the side markers?

+1. I had no problems with mine - but they don't light up (UK market car) but this seems petty officialdom at its worst.
The 'clone' tool will sort that nicely.

Hi Matthew,

I havfe just put my 1997 XK8 through French CT yesterday using the deflectors from Black country Jags and it passed with no problem, just need to make sure your lamps are realigned before you have the test Probably good idea to have a garage do this.

I paid UKP80 for the deflectors and they take around 20 mins to fit, and come with instructions. I'm off to the prefecture on Wednesday to complete the change to French plates

Cheers

Richard

Hi Richard,

Good luck with the Prefecture and remember - no copies, all documents must be originals or you will be sent packing.

I have just come back from the Prefecture with a temporary Carte Gris but because there were two different CV 23 & 21 they could not tell me what the cost would be when I last applied it was €406 so I am hoping iy will be about the same and remember as your car is like mine over ten years old, the cost is reduced by 50%.

I fitted LHD headlamps which I got from a subscriber in Belgium €280 inc PP.

Regards

Matthew

Hi Matthew,

just to let you know I now have the carte grise with no problems or hassle, actually I though the process was easy especially as I bought a certificate de conformance instead of having to deal with the Dreal.

Cheers

Hi Richard,

That is good news and I agree the process is essentially straightforward provided you follow the rules and never present copies. My problem was that the car was a US car and I could not get a full CoC from Jaguar hence the DREAL. I now have the document from the DREAL and all the papers are with the Prefecture. Hopefully when I get back to France in a few weeks the Carte Gris will be waiting. Where are you based in France?

Regards

Matthew

Default Carte Gris

Hi,

At last, I have a French Registration. I visited the Prefecture in Perigueux last Friday and within thirty minutes had the appropriate paperwork and ten minutes later had number plates. And the cost? €384.5!

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions and advice.

Regards

Well done. What age is your car - that was very cheap.

Congratulations Matthew,

It's been a long and difficult journey.

I don't suppose you're considering a newer model XK8 just yet?

Hi Steve,

The car was made in 1998. I was very surprised at the low cost given what some have paid.

Regards

Matthew
