Default Loctite Form-A-Thread, does it work?

I have a bad bolt hole on my oil pan that is leaking and need to repair it My car is a convertible and the damage is right under the cross bracing. If the loctite works then it would be a easy job. The torque for the bolt is only around 9 PSI so it seems it could work. Has anyone had experience with this product?

I have not. I would tap either with a cleaning tap or drill one size up and tap then using the appropriate bolt for that hole.

I have used it, IMO it is a 'patch job' and cannot be relied upon. Drill and tap is durable.

Default Thread Repair Review

If you have time, this gentleman does a decent review of different repair products.
About what you'd expect but was worth a watch for me..

Unfortunately I do have a small leak coming from that spot. I figured with the next oil change to drop the pan and fix it. The complication is that with the convertible frame cross member is in the way to drill it. I do have room for a thread chaser and will try that first.

Just remove the x-brace. It’s only a few bolts.

that’s what I was thinking too. But my car is a coupe, so not qualified to give a firsthand knowledgeable answer.

just taking the pan off and installing a
heli-coil or time-sert would not take much time once you have all the parts and tools assembled. That’s the way to repair without having to do over.
