lift the car up for a thorough visual inspection and make sure nothing nibbled on any of the transmission wiring

Cleaning and making sure they are clean and tight is important. Do you know if the connectors were ever replaced? I asked earlier about the codes because I recently experienced a P1121 code with a host of many faults. This may be worth reading Jaguar XK8 Throttle Body R&R

i really dont know if they have been replaced..looks like the throttle body has some carbon build up..this could be causing the butterfly to not close properly..maybe causing the rough idle and throwing the p0121 code?can i clean this with carb cleaner?

I would suggest MAFS cleaner, which you might do at the same time, and the only area that matters is the edges of the butterfly valve and the mating surfaces. Don't waste a lot of spray making it look pretty. All that stuff has got to go somewhere.

This is what you need to clean the throttle body Search results for "05078" | CRC Industries When was the last time the plugs were replaced? The car sat for 8 months, try cleaning the TB and then add BG 44K and if it does not clear it up look at the plugs and if that fails let us know. With no codes now it is hard to say.

See if you can get the BG44K and add to the fuel. You can get it from most dealerships.

I have not seen or heard that the belt would cause a problem that you have. It could create a problem with your a/c, power steering, charging, cooling and supercharge if it applies.

the trans fault and restricted perf warnings continue to appear randomly...most of the time they disappear if i turn the car on then back on..sometimes i have to do reset..where are transmission electrical connections?i doubt they are visible from the engine bay..do i need to jack car up to find them and where?thanks

This PDF states that it's for the 2003 MY. Can it be used for prior years? Or should I be looking for the same thing for the 1997 MY. Thanks in advance!

I think that most of the codes are probably the same, although the later years may have a few additional codes that the earlier cars don't have.

In any case, I've also got a 1997, and I've attached the diagnostic code manuals below, for both the engine and transmission management systems.

A little light reading...enjoy!
