Default Looking at buying a XK8/XKR

Hello, I am going to be in the market mid summer to possibly purchase a XK8/XKR in the 2003-2006 range. From what I have gathered this choice with the new engine is better than prior models, is that correct? I am not new to the car world and have and have had multiple collector cars, but I am looking for any advise and things to look for in the 03-06 range cars. Issues, problems, etc. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum My3buicks,

Check the FAQ's for regular issues:

You are correct that most of the issues were resolved with the later 4.2 litre but a well maintained 4.0 litre is worth consideration.

Get an OBDII code scanner. Make sure it can read Jaguars. Take it and the code list with you when you look at potential purchases, and plug it in when you are checking the vehicle. Read the codes and make an informed choice. Never "wing it" when buying one of these.

From a car lot? Get the carfax as well.

yes agree with marvin..nothing is cheap on these cars. I would also look up the carfax online before buying. may also ask someone in that area from the forum to accompany you .. am sure someone would assist you with the inspection. great group of folks on here

Nothing wrong with the older ones if it has been maintained. If you do find a 4.0 that you like, ask if it has been updated to the 3rd gen tensioners and guides. If not, negotiate a price that will allow you to replace them asap.
Coventry West, SNG Barratt and Jagbits (sponsors) have nice replacement kits.

I have a 1998 vert I'm thinking of selling. It has 69k on it and scored a 9.898 in 2013 at the Jaguar club Concours in Columbia Sc. I have all service records and all early model issues have been corrected.
