Loud sharp "clunk"

Likely the front anti-sway bar bushings, especially if original. They collapse with age. They are sort of recessed to begin with, so a bit of collapse of the rubber makes them clunk. Dirt cheap, and can be replaced home with some patience. No sense in checking them, just change them.
Best of luck, keep us posted.

fmertz has guessed you mean the "clunk" is coming from the front of the vehicle.
Almost any failing bush on front or rear suspension/shock absorbers will give a "clunk". Confimation of approximately where the sound is coming from will help identify possible causes.
