Default low oil pressure

I have a 2000 XKR that runs great but does have a prblem my mechanic has not been able to resolve. After the car runs for about 20 minutes and gets hot the low oil presurre light will come on when I am stopped. I am sitting at idel at about 400 RPS. I can increase the RPMs to about 600 and the light will go out. My mechanic has tried to reset the computer whcih regulates the idle rpm but he has been unsucessful.

any suggestions?

I would replace the oil pressure sensor. It is my understanding that the sensor is one that the pressure is or it is not with nothing in between.

Thanks - Your right- this is either an on or off switch (I think it requires something like 7 lbs of pressure to go to the off position). I replaced this sensor and the problem continues. I think I need to increase the idle rpm's but not sure how to accomplish this.

If I recall it is a ford sensor and if it is it would be cheaper at ford.

Idle is controlled by the ECM and is not adjustable. If the RPMs are adequate while idling in drive and you are not getting any check engine codes, you might want to look at a heavier weight oil. How many miles on the engine?

Thanks for the responses. The car has 81000 miles. I am getting no check engine lights. I did bump the oil weight up on my last oil change to a 50W oil and the problem persists. Last week I disconnected the battery for a few hours to try to reset the ecm but that did nothing. Took it out today and I got the low oil pressure light when stopped after about an hour of city driving. It took less than a 50 rpm increase to get the low oil pressure light to go out (just dropping the car into neutral when stopped was enough).

M m m m m?

Replaced the oil pressure switch . . . increased the oil viscosity to 50 weight . . . still have low oil pressure when hot?

Well . . . the bad news is that bad journal bearings or a worn oil pump might be in your future.

Worn oil pumps at low RPMs do not pump a lot of oil.

I was hoping it wasnt the oil pump but I have not been able to come up with any other suspects. Guess I will just have to keep a close eye on the low pressure light.

Thanks to all for your responses.
