Default Lucky to have a good running XK8

I follow the forum daily and I just have to say I feel so lucky to have a good running XK8.

I'm sure there are others and we just hear about issues on a forum like this but I count my lucky stars. I get in her, she starts, runs great and so far other than normal maintenance has never missed a beat or thrown any codes or warnings.

What a great car to own and drive, just last night the wife and I went to dinner and a play, as we were leaving she asked which car we were taking, my reply, the Jag of course it's the only way I roll. Great food, entertaining play and a wonderful top down drive home on a warm Maui night with my beautiful wife. Makes all the rest of whatever issues there are in life unimportant.

Ooohhh, you've done it now! Did you make any of these statements within earshot of the car?

If I was you I'd cross my fingers, knock on wood, sacrifice a virgin (you've got plenty of volcanoes handy) anything to placate the Jaguar gods.

Yep, you've jinxed it now. At least its not as bad as the old days when Jaguar = "Jinxed Auto Guarantees Unreliability And Repairs"

Sounds like a great night, we were out in both cars today with the tops down, probably the last chance to have the tops down this year, but have had a great summer, probably the best isnce 1977.

Other then little stuff she been great. Had a little starting/go into security mode. It's my car and she has her own. A chevy HHR. Dare I say when we go out together we take the Jag. It's not my daily driver cause I'm a locksmith and I'm in my van all day.
I got in her today for no reason but to go for a ride. I LOVE driving it and so does my wife. Tops been up the last few days.

Our British Car Club had an outing today to view the fall colors in Southeastern Ontario, and the first half of the day included so many brief showers that I was fearing that my windshield wiper switch might succumb to overuse. It passed the test with flying colors, though. My car suffers from a presumably defective brake light switch, as it occasionally deprives me of cruise control and issues an amber warning light and a "engine fail safe mode" notice. I ignore this, as the car does not lose any power or performance at all and I know that all will be restored to normal as soon as the car is shut down for a short while. As expected, all was well after the lunch break. Besides, I did not need cruise control on the winding secondary roads we were traveling on. On some of the more interesting sections, I toyed with the "S" button and found it to work perfectly as intended.

Well I guess I angered the Jaguar gods, today running around town picking up groceries, etc. filled up my car and drove 3 miles, went in the store, came back out 15 minutes later and the car fired up, stumbled and died, started again, stumbled and died. Waited about 5 minutes until I stopped cussing and tried again, was able to get it started by soft peddling the accelerator, missing and bucking, finally caught and I held the revs at 2500 for a few seconds. All ok, drove 3 miles to pick my wife up, turned car off for about 15 minutes. Tried restart and it fired up but was missing, thru a CEL, but stopped missing and ran fine on the way home. Got home and it restarted fine. Checked codes and got a 0305 miss fire cyl 5. Cleared the codes and all is OK again, no other pending codes and car stars fine. All other parameters were good, fuel pressure 66.5, temp 203, fuel trims good.

I wonder if I got some trash in the gas at fill up? Anyway I'll keep an eye on it and see if the issue returns.

O mighty gods of Jaguar whom I may have offended please forgive me for I have sinned but have now seen the light!

Some would say these cars are fiddle and some would say they are a PITA pick one. I still love her.

Well put some injector cleaner in the tank today and so far so good, no more issues. Holding my breath for the next few days.

This brings up a good point. Is there an injector cleaner anyone would recommend that would be good to add to a tank of gas now and then just to maintain proper function of the injectors? Good preventive care. Or, is it a waste of money because either the injectors are clear and clean or they aren't and there is to benefit to be gained? It would be a good thing for the new owner of a '99 with 85,000 miles to know.

What you see on here is everyone trying to solve problems they are having with their cars so you dont see many posts about not having a problem. Just think how many jag owners have a great running car and dont need to visit a forum for advice.

Glad you got a good one............Well almost

Default Self selected sample

A statistician would tell you that this forum is a self selected sample and you cannot extrapolate from it to the entire universe of Jag owners.

I always use the high octaine fuel what we call the v power plus, just like adding redex you could say, never had eny probs ,allways found it to be a much better response you just know once you have driven the same car for some time you can feel the diffrerence throughout every aspect of the your own vehicle, some say its all in the minde but my fuel bill tells me otherwise.

OH Ye of little faith ! I have an 04 ,XK8 convert. with 44,000 + mi on it and it has run flawlisly since I got it nine years ago.Only the usual maintenance .,ie brakes, and trans, brake ,and cooling fluid replacement. Somebody out there is abusing a very fine automobile. I love the ole beast and would not trade her for an (ugly looking ) new one one..The only mod I have made since new is the pressure relief kit for the convert.pump and removed the two before the axle resonators.

HAPPY MOTORING !
