Buy a used Engine £500-750 and pay someone 400-500 to fit?

But have you done a compression check yet?

That oil could be from the cam cover seals?

Take it to a good indie and get it checked out.

 

I thought it would cost a ot more to have a new engine fitted.

Will find another garage then and see what they say.

depends on what they mean by remanufactured?
If it is just a chemical wash of the outside and new paint then it is overpriced but if it has had a head strip and new timing chains/tensioners then it is worth it?

So they rebuild your engine, if they do all that they say will be done it doesn't look a crazy price. But the world of cars is full of shysters who take peolpes money and then do **** all.
I would want some assurance that they will do all that work because once you get it back all buttoned up it will be impossible to tell and you will likely invalidate their warranty if you remove a cover to see?

Again why do you think the engine is goosed? has a mechanic inspected, chains broke?
