MAF sensor
2000 jaguar xk8 convertible: Been getting p175/p172 codes. Mechanic wants to replace entire MAF unit all jaguar parts. My research shows you can buy the MAF sensor all by itself, but not jaguar. I put in buyautoparts.com MAF sensor and I am still getting codes. Has anyone else had success with reman MAF sensor (not replacing the whole unit)? Or is it better to just replace the entire unit? Thanks for your help.
Replace just the MAF sensor, no need to replace it's housing unlss it is cracked or damaged.
Rebuilt sensors have worked for me just fine. If you have replaced the MAF and are still getting codes look elsewhere for the problem...

Agreed. These plastic air intake bellows sections get weak with heat and age, then crack and split. It can be difficult to see when the intake is on the car. Take it off, pull it apart slightly, and you may be able to see right through the splits and holes....
I had to replace ours last autumn. Some people opt to clean it thoroughly then tape it up with good-quality black electrical tape. There are several threads here in the XK8 section pertaining to this issue and the various repair approaches that owners have taken....
