Default Marathon weekend in the XKR

The occasion was my daughters wedding, and why fly to the coast when you have an '02 XKR just begging to be let out of the garage ???

So this past Thursday at 12:30 am I left Oklahoma and headed east, destination Marietta Georgia. That's about 850 miles one way from my little hometown in northeast Oklahoma. 16 hours later I arrived, a little saddle sore, but not too bad, as I stopped every 120-150 miles to top off the tank and do a few laps around the car to loosen up the old back and legs. The next two days were packed full of wedding activities, which consisted mainly of putting on some fancy duds, and watching the "kids" drinking steadily.

But by Ssturday night the bride and groom had sobered up enough to say their vows, and the drinking, dancing, started up again in earnest. The reception was over at 10:00 pm Saturday night. It took me about an hour to get back to my bed & breakfast, shower, and pack the car. By 11:30 pm eastern time I was on the road again, this time headed west. I got home about 5:30 pm central time.

Total miles for the 4 days was 1,720. The car didn't even hiccup once. A real joy to drive

Get any stares while stopping for gas and stretching those legs? If so, I'm sure it was the car and not the lags.

stares while driving, and when getting gas. Had several REALLY nice conversations with folks about cool cars in general, and having fun in them.

Very cool Z. I would love to drive across that area of the country some day.

Interesting that the "coast" to you is Georgia. Sometimes I forget that perspective is everything. After 25 years in Florida I don't even think I live on the coast.

I have managed to make a few of those long trips too. One gas stop story still makes me smile.

In October 2013 while traveling thru the Adirondacks along I88 we stopped in Worcester NY for fuel. This was a very rural small town area.

I am standing there fueling up when I notice that everybody is staring at the XK8. Then a horn blares as two guys almost crash into each other in the parking lot.

A woman is walking past us, stops to point at our car and laughingly says "You're gonna cause an accident in here with that thing. We're not used to seeing stuff like that."

usually "the coast" around here means either Texas gulf coast, or California. I should've been more descriptive.

that how I felt as a 11year old kid in my smallish home town when two of the leading oil men (HC Price & HC Price Jr. parked their matching '63 e type coupes in front of their ( Frank Lloyd Wright designed ) skyscraper, The Price Tower. They parked there everyday, and I walked past them on the way to and from school. I used to just sit on the curb and stare at those cars . They looked like they were from outer space compared to every other car I'd seen.

PS. it appears that not one drop of oil was used during the trip, on a power train that has 127,452 miles on it.

Amazing.

I think they were, compared to the contemporaneous offerings. Nothing other than the X100 comes close, IMO. We were robbed with the early loss of Malcolm Sayer.

It's a breath of fresh air to read a forum post which isn't about a problem with the car.

Perhaps most of the time we are too busy driving them to share the joy.
