Default In the market

Hi all, new here. Name is Dave.

Im in the market for an XK8 and I did read the FAQ. My question relates to what sems to need to be replaced at what mileage. I found 4 cars, 2 have less than 40k miles (both 1997 and 1999) and 2 with 60 to 90k miles (2000 year).

With all things being equal on the cars (condition), would you buy lower or higher mileage?

Thanks for any input...

Dave

All things being equal . . . . ?

Price, tires, paint, paint color, leather, leather color, top, etc? Even the grain/color of the wood dash.

Plastic/rubber/leather deteriorates more with time than miles. Later cars had suspension improvements.

Don't worry, be happy, emotion will dictate which one.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, good point on suspension. Honestly, all the cars are the same color (narrowed that down already), and the prices are comparable. My main concern is that a car with low miles may heva more things that will need to be replaced than the higher mileage (which may have had things done already, but can work noth ways.) Only main difference in the cars I have narrowed down is mileage.

If it were me dave, I'd buy the newer model year, even if the mileage was a bit more. That's a personal choice. 1997s - first year for the XK8, scares me more than knowing what the 99s are known for...throttle body, tensioners, transmission a-drom, and the like. But, if you did get the 97, cheaper purchase price, you could afford to do all of the things I just mentioned above...for the same price as the 99. I make a strong argument for opposite my original recommendation. Sorry if I confused...myself mainly.

Armed with all the FAQ knowledge you've absorbed, you should be able to make a well informed decision between all your candidates.

I'm just happy you have four likely contenders to chose from. I searched for months before finding one that met my expectations. I guess that's the penalty for living in the middle of nowhere.
