Default motor will be arriving in a week. need guidence

My mechanic and myself will embark on the engine change in about two weeks. I have been searcing and cant seem to find the proceedures for removing and reinstalling the engine. I have seen suggestions that the engine and transmission should be pulled and reinstalled as a unit. Does this save any time? My mechanic says he can do it without trans removal.
Thoughts? Processes? Danger?

Contact Motorcarman. He has done it many times and he is great at helping us. I think his technique is to drop the whole thing out the bottom. Maybe that is on the XK8s. You'll get good advice from him.

Default She Lives

Acquired a 35 k mile AJ 27 motor and got it swapped out. Purrs like the cat it once was. Now to address all the issues that keep it from being a great car that someone will cherish. With the help of the members of this forum and the database created by those same devoted members I will sort out the warning lights and codes. The PO disabled the top because of a burst hose.
I will need to find out what he did and reverse it so I can replace what is broken.
Any guidence as to how he would have disabled the top electrics would be helpful.

update. Found and installed a dealer rebuilt aj27. is supposed to heave only 35 k on the rebuild.
Once I get through finding a vacum leak she will be sold. drivers side bank is mis-fireing and setting codes. Also need to address the abs module. Will try the re solder fix. What an adventure. But it will be worth it to have one more cat back on the road.
Did tensioners and valley hoses and topside gaskets before install. it just made sense.
